Cold air streaming down from Canada caused Chicago Public Schools and Des Moines Public Schools in Iowa to cancel classes today. Wind chills predicted to be as low as minus-35 degrees could cause frostbite within 10 minutes, making it too dangerous to walk to school or wait for the bus.
With air temperatures frigid and wind chills even colder, some Chicagoans decided it was the perfect time for some people to go get their cars washed or go for a run.
On Friday at 11:48 a.m. the National Weather Service released an updated cold weather advisory valid from 4 p.m. until Saturday 10 a.m. for Westmoreland Ridges, Fayette Ridges and Higher Elevations of Indiana.
An arctic front will bring snow, ice and extreme cold to much of Texas this weekend, with winter storm and extreme cold watches in effect.
