New Year’s Eve checkpoints lead to DUI arrests in Newton County
Multiple agencies conducted New Year’s Eve checkpoints in Newton County. Officers made seven DUI arrests and issued dozens of citations. Sheriff says the effort focused on roadway safety and prevention.
The checkpoints honor the memory of Hannah Parton, who was killed by an impaired driver almost five years ago, as well as another unnamed woman, HPD said.
Authorities urge caution and planning ahead as they ramp up efforts to prevent impaired driving on what OHP says is one of the most dangerous times of the year.
The state cannabis tax funds the checkpoints, which look for drivers under the influence of various drugs or alcohol.
