Half the U.S. population will likely see some effect from the sprawling storm that will move across the country this weekend, meteorologists said.
The Kansas City area is under a winter storm watch starting Friday at midnight, with between 5 to 7 inches of snow possible. Wind chills as low as 20 below zero are also expected, according to the National Weather Service.
The arctic cold will set the stage for the winter storm and last for at least the next week. We are talking about 7 + days where temperatures will not climb above freezing. Generally, low temperatures will be in the single digits and teens and high temperatures will be in the teens and 20s.
One meteorologist warns that “the main ingredients” are fitting into place for a disruptive winter storm later this week.
