Court records reveal more details about what led to the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man in Springfield Wednesday morning.
SPRINGFIELD – Illinois State Police special agents are reviewing a case in which a Springfield Police officer shot someone. The investigation was requested by SPD. The shooting happened during a vehicle stop at approximately 5:13 p.m. in the 2400 block of Neil Road, on the city's northside Jan. 10.
Authorities said it occurred after an attempted traffic stop at approximately 5:13 p.m. in the 2400 block of Neil Road. Springfield police said the stop was part of an investigation. During the stop, SPD said four people with firearms exited the vehicle. Shots were fired and a subject was struck.
SPRINGFIELD — A man was seriously injured in a shooting Tuesday night. The crime took place at about 8 p.m. on Wilbraham Road near the intersection of Dresden Street. Police located the victim about a quarter mile away near intersection of State Street and Roosevelt Avenue, said Ryan Walsh, a police spokesman.
The Springfield Police Department says the victim has been identified as Brandon Watt, 22 According to Lieutenant Daniel Carlson of SPD, officers received a call at around midnight from someone who had heard shots fired near Elm Street and Kimbrough Avenue.
